NEHENHub: Your HIE Connection

Communicating directly with health insurance plans, especially Central Medicare Services, can be challenging for those with limited information technology resources. At NEHEN, we have leveraged our expertise and relationships with many health insurance plans to build direct connections to them from our own data center. We now offer the convenience and savings of using this managed connectivity service to our members.

In short, NEHENHub saves you the time and cost of managing your own telecommunications.

What Does NEHENHub Do?

NEHENHub can lower your telecommunications costs and simplify your direct payer connectivity into one channel. NEHENHub acts as a conduit for your direct communications with private and public health insurance payers. Instead of you managing each connection to each payer, NEHENHub gives you the ability to have a single channel through which your HIPAA administrative transactions can travel directly to their intended payer. Those payers include all the same payers supported in NEHENNet, plus nearly all Medicare regional administrators, such as NHIC, Corp.

With the NEHENHub you can:
bulletSimplify your telecommunications operations and save money over proprietary third party solutions
bulletSend and receive HIPAA transactions such as member eligibility (270/271), remittances (835) and claims (837) directly with popular health insurance plans that typically require specialized connectivity, such as Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Tufts Health Plan, Network Health, and Medicare.

How Do I Know if NEHENHub Is Right For Me?

If you manage your own direct EDI connections to health insurance plans, and see the benefit of consolidating your communications into a single channel, NEHENHub could be right for you.

Also, if you would like to exchange HIPAA administrative transactions with payers that require a VPN or 3rd party telecommunications provider, such as Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Tufts Health Plan, and Medicare, then NEHENHub might be right for you. If you use a third party Medicare connectivity vendor, NEHENHub is an attractively priced alternative to their products that brings you more than just Medicare connectivity in a single service. One connection to the NEHENHub lets you reach any NEHEN payer with any HIPAA administrative transaction that the payer supports.

How Does NEHENHub Work?

NEHENHub is like the Postal Service: it routes your package to its destination. You deliver your HIPAA administrative transactions (e.g., eligibility and claims) to the NEHENHub and they are routed to their intended payer destination as though you had made the connection directly ot the payer yourself.

How Hub Works

1. Your staff enters information into your existing billing or hospital information system, or into our convenient web-based NEHENExpress, and this generates a HIPAA standard transaction which is fed to a NEHEN gateway or your own integration engine such as Tibco or SeeBeyond.
2. The transaction is then forwarded to the NEHENHub over a single Virtual Private Network (VPN) The NEHENHub gateway examines the transaction and determines its destination.
3. The transaction is routed directly to the intended recipient over the NEHENHub's telecommunications channels. The receiving payer gets the transaction and sends back any appropriate acknowledgements and responses.
